2010 started off on a rough note. If I’m going to be honest, the rough patch was actually one of the reasons I started blogging. Starting the blog was probably one of the best things I did for myself; Not only was it an excuse to take my camera out more often, but I also had a creative outlet in a space I am comfortable opening up to. Win-win, for sure! Anyway, here are some key things that made 2010 a memorable year for me.
the food.
I can’t tell you how amazing 2010 has been for trying new foods and indulging in old favorites. I had the most delicious Japanese desserts of all-time when in New York, following the best cupcakes in Seattle. Not to mention, I revisited old favorites (aka Paxti’s) in California. I also started to get out of my comfort zone and adventured into the land of Unagi. Oh barbecued eel, where have you been all my life?

trying new things.
I went snowboarding and curling for the first time ever in 2010. Snowboarding left me with a bruised tail bone, and curling left me with a bump on my head from completely wiping out on the sheet of ice (haha, I told you I’m clumsy!). I also started playing squash! Sports aside, I moved to a few new cities, finding new favorite hole-in-the-wall restaurants. I also had my own car for a few months. I’ve never been too much of an independently mobile person, but I can’t tell you how much I miss having a car in my life!

Another big thing was chopping off a lot of my hair at the end of June. As much as I liked having a short angled bob for the first few weeks, having to straighten my hair every single day got to be a little too tedious for me. Although I don’t fully regret hacking off my hair, I definitely miss my long locks!

dealing with uncertainties.
So many things happened in 2010 that I am not even sure I would be able to comfortably speak to if the outcomes were different from what they are. The biggest one was dealing with my little girl, Bear. She went through hell and back with a gum infection for a large part of the summer where she had to see a vet almost once a week. Luckily, she’s making a decent recovery and is back to her usual smiley self! The photo below is from one of the many trips we made to the vet together. She hates being in a cage so she sat on my lap the whole car ride over. What a little trooper!

enjoying the outdoors.
I can’t say I’ve always enjoyed the outdoors, but 2010 was the year for hiking, exploring riding trails, and going for walks on ridiculously snowy days. being outside definitely gives me a sense of space and time to think about things I usually would not think about while cooped up behind my laptop indoors. As corny as this may sound, I realize why it’s so important to get my daily dose of Vitamin D!

photography.
I’ve become a lot more “shutter-happy” this year compared to the last few. It might be due to the fact that my life has been changing quite drastically every few months but I can’t help but try to document it. As a (good) consequence, I’ve been able to learn the ins and outs of my camera a bit better– we’ve definitely been able to bond and I would like to think my photography is a lot better now than it was a year ago. heh!

Here’s to wrapping up one year and looking ahead for a fresh start in 2011! I don’t have a list of resolutions (yet), but then again, I never seem to stick to my list anyway. I hope you all enjoy the champagne and midnight kisses at midnight tomorrow!
xo,
katrina
