Resolve this

by thedemuremuse on January 16, 2012

It’s already halfway through the first month of 2012 and I’m still trying to figure out what my resolutions are this year. It’s been a while since I’ve had any real resolutions and I figured 2012 is the year to get back on the horse! No more dilly-dallying with resolutions like “Exercise more” or “Spend less money on clothes”; I want to make this year’s resolutions to be more concrete so I know when I can cross things off the list.

I’ve always loved the “X-1 before X” lists. A couple of my favourites were written by Elsie and Elizabeth:

Although I’m not going to make as big of a list for myself, here are some of my resolutions for 2012:

1. Eat McDonald’s no more than once a week
I know, I know. It’s a bad habit of mine. I’d like to eat healthier in general and I’m going to take baby steps to hopefully get to a point in my life where McDonald’s isn’t a huge part of my weekly diet.

2. Exercise at least once a week
Trust me when I say I’m not one to be self motivated when it comes to physical activities. I go through stages where I want nothing more than to spend all my free time at the gym and then other cycles where I’ll go a few months without exercising at all. This year I want to get into a more regular routine. Once a week isn’t much but it’s a start!

3. Learn to silk screen
I’ve been meaning to do this for years. I have a silk screening kit that my family bought for me a couple years ago and I just haven’t got around to trying it out. For starters, I’m not much of an illustrator. I’ve been trying to get inspired to come up with the perfect design before busting out the ink. *fingers crossed* that 2012 is the year of inspiration!

Are any of you writing “X-1 before X” kind of lists or resolutions for this year?

I love that you used algebra to name the type of list, AWESOME! I made one last year and loved it, but I’m having trouble this year. I haven’t decided if some things are too trivial for the list (or in some cases too big) and I figured the debate wasn’t worth it. So my list is a little shorter than it’s name says… :)

I definitely have a lot of respect for anyone who can make a list of more than 5 things and actively try to work on these things during the year! 3 is a bit of a stretch for me :P

hehe I’m glad someone else can appreciate the algebra. I’m all about the math ;)

I totally need to stop eating McDonalds too! We live within walking distance to one so it’s just SO easy to stop by there in the mornings for breakfast sandwiches or on the way home for some fries and burgers :( They’re promoting the “fresh ingredients” thing though, haha, so I get tricked into thinking it’s nutritious :(

And silk screening? That sounds like SO MUCH FUN. I’ve always wanted to try that!!! Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

good resolutions! i’m terrible at making resolutions because…well, mostly because i’m lazy/forgetful, but i totally admire those that make some and stick with them. good luck with yours!

so cool that you have a silk-screening kit! i took a class in college and had a lot of fun with it. sure, i botched a bunch of t-shirts, but that was part of the learning process (and i got 3 good ones out of it). i think you’ll like it! :D

I use to eat Mcdonalds all the time when I was a young lad…before my metabolism stopped working. I still have Mcdonalds now but I watch my portions and limit myself. Good luck on your list, I think you have set yourself reasonable goals :-)

Oooooh I sooo want to see what you come up with (with the silk screen project!) I have no doubt it will be awesome! You are sooo creative!

Hope you are doing well and having a happy winter, friend! xoxo

I have a list of my own, but it’s sort of minimal. I like to focus on one goal at a time, and build on that. I can’t wait to see your creations with the silk screen project! That sounds like fun.

I was late to posting my New Year’s Resolutions- so no worries on that part! I like what you posted and how you made them specific. I’m with you on exercise and so far I’ve been really dedicated. But since it’s only February 1st, my motivation is still high :) :)

    xx

p.s. Love how you included those other girl’s lists. It’s even more inspiration!
