Snow for all

by thedemuremuse on January 27, 2012

Let’s rewind to the epicness of last week, shall we? It was the first time I had experienced a Seattle winter and let me tell you, I was surprised! Coming from Toronto, I’m used to a snow-filled winter. One of the reasons I didn’t like living in the east coast was because of the extreme winters (Sorry to all my snowboarding and skiing lovers). When I found out that Seattle rarely gets more than a foot of snow at once, I was thrilled!! No more having to hike through snow mounds taller than me to get to the grocery store!

Last week was the strangest thing I have ever experienced. There was maybe 2″ of snow accumulated on the ground overnight and the entire city basically shut down. I know a lot of people make fun of Seattle drivers for not knowing how to deal with snow, but after experiencing this first hand, I now know what it’s like to be a real Seattlite! Apparently we (I’m slowly turning into a west coaster!) are really into being environmentally friendly and environmentally friendly salt just doesn’t fight snow/ice as well as the harsh salt on the east coast. Seattle is also a lot hillier than Toronto, so it’s not common to watch buses or cars slide down steeper parts of downtown. Definitely a scary sight!

So what did I do in the three days of the Seattle Snowpocalypse of 2012? Nothing super exciting, to be honest. Stayed home, bundled up in my favourite sweater, and caught up on the last two issues of US Weekly that have been waiting for me to read through. haha! Productive, I think! ;)

Not fair. You get to stand in snow while I don’t know what to wear because it is over 80 degrees F in January here.

Cute outfit. I like your shoes.

Haha, yes, us Seattlies are wimps when it comes to snow/ice, but I think it’s because we are so unprepared as a city for it, and we’re bad at dealing with it. There’s so many hills and the roads just get really dangerous! I’m always amazed at how snow barely fazes other cities when it’s such a HUGE deal here.

But, I know I appreciated staying home from work all week :) Your sweater looks so cozy!!!

Thank you for defending our fair city. It’s super hilly here! Driving gets treacherous! I want to know more about your necklace!

Even though I lived on the East Coast and in Germany as a kid, I will never be used to cold winters! That’s why I love living in AZ- no unbearable blizzard like temps.

Love what you wore and especially how you belted your sweater. I have a similar one from Anthro and will definitely be stealing this idea for a fresh way to wear it! Love your glasses too :)
