An apple a day

Remember that recipe I shared last weekend for baked apples? Since baking those, I’ve been a little obsessed with apple treats. A few days after baking those apples, my friends and I piled into a car to the closest apple orchard to get the good stuff straight from the source (aka I am so tired of paying $2.99/lb for apples from Whole Foods).

apples galore

Having not really done any research for the peak harvest time, we were a couple weeks shy of the ideal harvest season. No worries, though! We still managed to walk away with a few dozen apples and a handful of Asian pears! The best part of the whole experience was seeing what real, all natural, non-chemical-filled apples look and taste like. I still haven’t quite figured out what to do with my stash (currently contemplating trying my hand at making jam, but we’ll see how that pans out) but I’m excited to cook them!

I was really hoping we’d get to see some horses on the farm (which sort of explains my equestrian-esque outfit for the day) but there were none. :( We did see two really cute dogs and a bunch of chickens! Thankfully the chickens were less camera shy than the last few I tried to take a photo of some.

Even though this autumn is barely halfway through, I can’t wait for Fall 2013. I’m going to make sure to mark my calendar for all the fruit and vegetable harvesting way in advance!!

  • I love all the colors in the photos. Also, super cute outfit. I wish it would cool down here so I could wear a blazer and go apple picking. Unfortunately we are still in the low 90’s high 80’s and it’s quite a drive to the nearest orchard (which has its apple season in August). Hopefully this time next year I’ll be living somewhere with seasons!
