Make a skirt
Gosh, it’s been so long since I’ve sewn anything. 2012 was apparently the year of buying sewing books, but I haven’t really put any of the books to good use. I’ll be better this year! I’ve got all my fabrics washed and ready to be cut and sewn so no excuses for not starting a project this time around.
Send snail mail once a month
A friend of mine did this great project last year where she bought a set of 100 Pantone postcards, hand wrote personalized messages, and mailed them out for Christmas. It was so amazing to see all the details of each package and I felt so lucky to have received one of the cards! I want to do something similar, but on a smaller scale. My goal is to send out at least one piece of mail a month. I bought a box of postcards over the weekend to get started!
Visit the UW campus
Having lived in Washington for over a year and never stopping to see the state’s campus was a no-no. It only took 14 months, but it’s safe to say that this goal has been checked off! I’m going to try to stop by the campus again during cherry blossom season.
Make cake pops
(I totally just typed “cake poops” instead of “cake pops”) This has been on my list of things to make since… forever. I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to projects that involve melting chocolate since the first (and only) time I’ve ever tried to temper chocolate, I managed to burn it. Hopefully there will be no chunky chocolate bits this year!
Take a spontaneous weekend trip
Not sure where I’m going or when this will happen (it’s supposed to be spontaneous, remember?), but I hope it’ll be somewhere warm and sunny and fun!
Reunite with friends outside of Washington or California
These are our states of choice to meet up in, but I’m hoping to convince the group to try a new state. We’re all easily motivated by food, so if I’m lucky, I’ll find some neat places to eat at in states we’ve never visited before. :)
Complete at least 2 art classes
Taking a pattern drafting course last year really made me realize how much I:
1. Miss having a creative outlet
2. Want to make clothes
Trying to be smart with work/life balance was never my forte, but I’m going to try to squeeze in 2 classes this year.
Own less than 20 pairs of shoes by June/July
Self explanatory. I am a bit of a shoe hoarder and there are a bunch of shoes that have holes in the soles and need to be thrown out. Every time I look at the shoes I think, “These are so cute and I could wear them with X, Y, and Z!!” …except I never do. Time to stop being such a pack rat and get rid of these!
Work smart, work hard
Like said, I’m bad with work/life balance. Going to try to be smarter about the number of hours I put in and be as productive as possible. No more waking up at 3am to answer emails, going back to bed at 6, and then getting up to start the work day at 7:30!
Spend wisely
Looking at my expenses from last year, I noticed that I was pretty bad about spending. Dining out at least three nights a week made quite the dent in my wallet. It doesn’t feel like a lot when the bill says $15 a meal, but 3 times a week for 52 weeks works out to be quite a lot of moolah! Starting this year, I now have a Costco membership and have been buying food in bulk and even started making a cooking schedule to make sure I don’t fall back into old habits of going out to eat because of convenience.
Learn to crochet
It’s going to happen!! I will get around to finally using that crochet hook I got for Christmas in 2008.
What are your goals for 2013? Are we working towards similar goals that we can help motivate each other with?
