REVIEW: 52 Lists for Happiness by Moorea Seal

If you’ve been following my Instagram stories, you may remember a sneak peek of this journal from September’s stories. I shared all the chapters and a bit of the photography on the day before the official launch date.

Moorea Seal 52 Lists for Happiness journal review
Today’s review post is particularly exciting for me because it’s for the second book by one of my favourite Seattle-based shop owners, Moorea Seal. Moorea’s first book, The 52 Lists Project (review post here), was such a personal favourite of mine because of the perfect prompts for self reflection and development. Fun fact: her first book sold out multiple times over the 2015 holiday season, requiring 5+ reprints just to keep the shelves stocked! It’s hard to not fall in love with such a productive journal. I may have gifted 5 copies to friends and family for Christmas last year.

This second book, 52 Lists for Happiness, is even better! Instead of being sectioned by seasons like her first journal, this second one’s “chapters” are in order of reflect, acknowledge, invest, and transform. In her first journal, I jumped from section to section, whereas I’ve been working through the sections in chronological order for this second one.

My partner and I have a weekend tradition of exploring Seattle’s coffee shops and spending a morning unplugged from our phones, laptops, etc. During this time, we bring the Sunday newspaper, books, magazines, or journals to enjoy some unplugged quiet time with each other.

Moorea Seal 52 Lists for Happiness journal prompts

On top of my weekly magazine reads, I’ll pack my 52 Lists for Happiness journal and spend 10 minutes reflecting on my week based on the prompt. Being unplugged helps me to stay focused and grounded during these quiet mornings. What I love the most about Moorea’s journals and prompts are the actions at the end of every list.

Aside from the content itself, let’s talk about the design! The rose gold foil looks so regal against the floral cover. Similar to her first book, the 52 Lists for Happiness is full of gorgeous photography and illustrations throughout the journal. Not only is this journal an emotional and self-reflective treat, but it’s also a very visual and creatively-stimulating one!

To avoid making the same mistake I did last year of waiting too long to stock up on these journals for the gift giving season, I made sure to stockpile. I purchased 3 copies of the 52 Lists for Happiness journal so that I can avoid scrambling to find them in stock this holiday season!

If you’re looking to get a copy of your own, you can purchase one from Amazon (here), or directly from Moorea Seal’s online store (here).

Disclosure: I received a copy of the 52 Lists for Happiness journal to review in exchange for this post. I did, however, also purchase 3 in addition to the review copy because I just love the journal so much! All opinions are 100% my own.

Moorea Seal store – 2nd anniversary party!

If you’ve been a blog reader for a while, you’ll know how much I absolutely love supporting independently owned businesses– bonus points for local ones! The Moorea Seal store in Belltown turned 2 last month (where does the time go? Check out the original grand opening party post from 2014) and the local Seattle bloggers and media got a sneak peek of the shop makeovers before the big city-wide party this Friday (June 3)!

There was a beautiful arrangement of snacks from other local businesses, including QED coffee, which is now on my list of places to bike to in Beacon Hill! They served up some delicious coffee and herbal teas while we all mingled and heard about the soon-to-come plans for Moorea’s store (launch of her new book, plans for local influencers, and lots of other goodies!).

For those of you who are not local to Seattle and haven’t seen her beautifully curated collections on Pinterest, Moorea has such a distinct style that translates directly to her shop and its beautifully stocked goods. Her storefront is my personal go-to for accessories (proof is in the pudding in these posts) and I’ve taken almost every girlfriend to this store to get their shop on!

Huge thank you to Vivian Hsu for all of the beautiful photography in this post from last week’s sneak peek event!

GIVEAWAY: Moorea Seal 52 Lists Project Journal

Everyone loves a mid-week giveaway, right? I’m extra excited about today’s because this one is near and dear to my heart. My sweet friend, Moorea Seal, launched her first book, The 52 Lists Project: A Year of Weekly Journaling Inspiration, this week! If you aren’t familiar with Moorea Seal, she used to have a project called the 52 Lists on her blog a couple years ago that encouraged positive thinking to help make your dreams a reality. Each week, many blog readers participating in her weekly lists would share their dreams and aspirations on a linkup in her blog. Now, there’s a hard copy version available!

Every chapter of the book is divided up by season. I’m starting midway through at Fall, and then working my way through it in seasonal order. For me, this journal has been an extremely personal and a journey through being introspective and getting to know myself better. 2015 has been all about pushing myself and pursing things that I’ve been dreaming about for years and never took action on. Having this journal is an incredible reminder of what my goals are and how to take small actions to make them a reality. I’m not going to lie– I’m super nervous to share what I’ve written down so I’ll be leaving that out for another future post.

Now you can enter to win a copy of your own! This contest is open to all residents of the US and Canada.

If you’re not interested in trying you luck, you can always pick up your own copy online from Moorea Seal’s store here, or on Amazon here.

Sneak peek of the Moorea Seal Store (& grand opening party details!)

If you have any plans this Friday (May 9), you should drop them. No, seriously. The lovely Moorea Seal who opened her online shop, aptly named Moorea Seal just opened her first storefront here in Seattle and is throwing a grand opening party this Friday! Her eye for style and curating goods is like no other and being able to shop all the goodies in person is a dream come true!

Not a lot of people know this, but Moorea is the first person that I met when I first moved to Seattle. As a total stranger (I was a reader of her blog for years before moving to the PNW), I emailed her and asked about cool places to check out in the city. Instead of giving me a list, this amazing woman offered to meet me up for coffee and show me around the city in person! How awesome is that? She is, to this day, one of the most caring, kind, inspiring people I have ever met. Not only does she inspire me to dream big, but she also makes me want to be a better person. She is so kind and thoughtful and always sees the best in everyone– she set the bar pretty high for new friends in the area, that’s for sure!

Moorea threw a sneak peek party last week and, let me tell you, it was incredible to see how quickly she and her team put together this storefront. All of the merchandise is so smartly displayed in the carefully curated spaces of the shop. Aside from all the cool goodies, turns out that there are plans to hold workshops in the future. How cool is that? I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Moorea holds a jewelry-making class. I’ve always loved her style of accessories and would love to learn from her.

Summer stripes

This season’s outfits are nothing short of basics being worn over and over and over again. It took a lot to muster up the courage to take outfit photos (this was the first set taken since May!) because I’ve been feeling like my style is quite plain and uninspiring in the Summer. I’m a lady who loves layering and layering is not exactly a friendly practice in the warm Summer sun.

I purchased this top from the Moorea Seal store in June and have been wearing it weekly ever since. It’s super comfortable and I love the longer length. It’s great to wear tucked into the waistband or to be knotted in the front (like styled in this summer stripes outfit post).
