REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Lee Stafford CHoPstick STYLER Ceramic Curling Wand

Happy hump day! We’re halfway through the week and I have a really fun treat for you all today! I’ll be reviewing one of the most interesting curling wands ever, the Lee Stafford CHoPstick STYLER ceramic curling wand, and giving one away. How’s that for a mid-week surprise!?

For starters, here’s something you should know before I share my review: this review and giveaway is in partnership with Lee Stafford (thank you!). When I tried out this curling wand, I had 2-day old hair with no product in it. I always wait 2 days before styling, as newly washed hair tends to not hold as nicely.

Lee Stafford chopstick styler curling wand review and giveaway
The barrel on this ceramic curling wand is just under half an inch, making it the smallest barrel of any curler I’ve ever owned (including the thinnest end of my tapered curling wand). Having never had tight curls before, I was really excited to try this out.

This curling wand only has a single temperature (200°C) and was fully heated and ready to start curling in less than a minute after turning it on. As I continued to curl, I became more and more impressed with how uniform the tight curls were, and how much volume I was getting from them. Granted, I do have a lot of hair to begin with, so this was a lot more volume than I’m already used to.

My hair, when straightened, hovers around chest-length. After curling, my hair was hovering around shoulder length! It was so fascinating to see what a length difference and to feel like I could rock a lot of versatile hairstyles just from having tight curls with an overall shortened length.

I specifically chose to only curl onwards from the temple so that I could style my hair by pinning the curls behind the ears. It’s truly night and day between the volume of my straightened hair vs after using the curling wand.

This curling wand was really easy to use. I appreciated the single temperature (no fuss to have to pick my own heat level) and the safety glove that was provided. Although I really like the results and look of the tighter curls, it took almost double the amount of time to curl my hair with the CHoPstick wand than my regular curling wand. The thin barrel meant being able to curl only small sections of hair at a time. This is a curler that I think would be perfect for those special nights out when there’s a bit of extra time to prep for the night, but I don’t think I would be able to work the almost 30 minute curling session into my daily morning routine.

All in all, I had a really great time testing and reviewing this product! I’m also extra excited to offer one lucky winner a curling wand of their own through the giveaway below. Good luck!

REVIEW + GIVEAWAY: Caseapp custom iPhone case

At the beginning of this year, I became what I feel like I’ve been destined to become… a cat mom. It’s been a hard journey in being a crazy cat lady because, as much as I love cats, I’m actually super allergic to them. I tried to adopt a cat back in 2014 (remember Gramps?), but my allergies flared up beyond control after only a month of living with him, and I thought he was the be-all-end-all for adventures in being a cat mom. Thanks to the stars aligning almost 2 years later, I’m now the proud mom of a sweet, fire point Siamese kitty named Sushi Magoo.

In true obsessive cat mom form, my fridge is covered in photos of dear little Sushi Magoo. After given the opportunity to create my own custom iPhone case through Caseapp, my phone is now covered in her face too! haha :)

Caseapp has a handful of pre-made templates that made it super easy to design this custom phone case. The hardest part was trying to figure out which photos to use. Taking one of my favourite photos of Sushi ever (with her signature deer-in-the-headlights look), I made this fun collage of her face on a case!

I asked what she thought about the case… she didn’t seem to find it as funny or cute as I do:

GIVEAWAY: 2015 must-have favourites

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I wanted to take this week to give an extra “thank you” to everyone for following along in the last few months. Whether you’ve been following this lil ‘ol blog for the last 5 years, or the last 5 days, I am so grateful for all of the friends, opportunities, and creative challenges that has been introduced to my life ever since starting. I am constantly being inspired by the sharing of opinions, beautiful photography, and kind words that are exchanged on our social platforms on the daily.

This year, I wanted to do an Oprah-styled giveaway of my favourite things from 2015. This is not a sponsored giveaway, but a collection of fun things that I’ve discovered over the last (almost) 12 months and wanted to share with all of you.

Arvo watch giveaway
giveaway package:
Timeous Edison watch: Arvo (exact)
minimalist edition necklace: Rogue T&K
Dream Catcher: Life on earth coloring book (exact)

1 // A few months back, the rewardStyle team made a stop in Seattle and hosted an informative night of how to use their tools and introduced a group of local bloggers to the husband and wife duo behind Arvo wear. We got to hear first hand about how their business has been able to grow because of the strong relationships formed between bloggers and brands in conjunction with rS tools. Not only is their company mission inspiring, but their products are equally as beautiful. I’ve been obsessed with their minimalist-style watches since being introduced to them and am excited to give one of these away this year!

2 // It’s no secret that adult colouring books are almost at the top of my go-to activities after work. Not only are the patterns in these books intricately beautiful, but there’s an aspect of calming and de-stressing whenever colouring these pages in. (Unless you’re like me and sometimes bad at staying within the lines, which leads to some stressful colouring sessions haha!) This Dream Catcher book is the #1 best seller in the adult colouring book category!

3 // This last item is near and dear to my heart. The necklace that’s pictured may not be the exact one that you’re getting, but it’ll be a piece from the Rogue T&K minimalist line. We’ve been hard at work on fine tuning the details of the range of our jewelry collection. I want to share one of our pieces first with one of you here! It’ll be an exclusive first look at this new line.

This giveaway is open to all readers (yes, even the international ones!), and entries will close on Nov 29, 2015 at 11:59pm EST.

Good luck! ♥

Halloween costume idea: Snow White princess and zombie form

There are 12 days left to sort out a Halloween costume and my original “team” costume got tossed out the window this weekend, so we’re back to the drawing board to figure out a costume for 2. Personal dilemma aside, I’m really excited today to share a fun collaboration that Goodwill did with some local Seattle bloggers earlier this month! I feel really lucky to have been asked to participate as a model to showcase their Halloween costume ideas. Keep reading to the end of this post, as there’s a $50 giveaway to help with building your dream Halloween costume this year!

Local stylist Darcy Camden pulled all of our outfits from Seattle Goodwill stores, and Tiffany Lowry was giving live demos for makeup during the event. Here’s the aftermath of our looks:

Before going into detail for the transformation from princess to zombie, wanted to point out that all of the bloggers that participated in this event went in blindly without knowing what we would be dressed up as. This couldn’t have worked out more perfectly for me because Snow White has always been my favourite Disney Princess (ok, I might be a teeny bit biased because it was hard to find a princess with black hair to dress up as when growing up). As proof, here’s a photo from my recent visit to Disneyland with Ms Snow White in the flesh, teaching me how to “princess pose”!

Meeting Snow White at Disneyland

It was so awesome to see Tiffany work her magic! I was originally done up with dramatic princess makeup– bright pink cheeks, glittery eye shadow, and beautiful false lashes. She did a live demo to the crowd where she brushed white powder on my face and neckline, added black eye shadow to my lids, sides of my temples, and mouth, before splattering fake blood everywhere. She also took a full sheet of temporary scar tattoos and put them right on my chest, which looked so real when combined with the fake blood! I absolutely loved her creativity for showcasing a 2-in-1 costume idea.

Giveaway time!
The lovely team at Goodwill Seattle is partnering today to offer one lucky Seattle-area reader a $50 gift card! I am already envious of whoever wins this giveaway considering how amazing the selection of Halloween (and day-to-day) goods are in the stores right now. Since Seattle stores are all locally owned, the winner of this giveaway will only be able to use the card in the Greater Seattle Area stores (Burien to Bellingham).

To enter, all you have to do is leave a comment letting me know what your dream Halloween costume idea is, and don’t forget to add your email address.

Winner will be selected on Wednesday, Oct 21 and will be contacted via email.

GIVEAWAY: Moorea Seal 52 Lists Project Journal

Everyone loves a mid-week giveaway, right? I’m extra excited about today’s because this one is near and dear to my heart. My sweet friend, Moorea Seal, launched her first book, The 52 Lists Project: A Year of Weekly Journaling Inspiration, this week! If you aren’t familiar with Moorea Seal, she used to have a project called the 52 Lists on her blog a couple years ago that encouraged positive thinking to help make your dreams a reality. Each week, many blog readers participating in her weekly lists would share their dreams and aspirations on a linkup in her blog. Now, there’s a hard copy version available!

Every chapter of the book is divided up by season. I’m starting midway through at Fall, and then working my way through it in seasonal order. For me, this journal has been an extremely personal and a journey through being introspective and getting to know myself better. 2015 has been all about pushing myself and pursing things that I’ve been dreaming about for years and never took action on. Having this journal is an incredible reminder of what my goals are and how to take small actions to make them a reality. I’m not going to lie– I’m super nervous to share what I’ve written down so I’ll be leaving that out for another future post.

Now you can enter to win a copy of your own! This contest is open to all residents of the US and Canada.

If you’re not interested in trying you luck, you can always pick up your own copy online from Moorea Seal’s store here, or on Amazon here.
