Holiday Shopping Guide: The special guy (aka Boyfriend)

by thedemuremuse on December 17, 2011

Welcome to the last edition of the Holiday Shopping Guide for 2011. Oh my, how time flies! I still remember when I was putting together the very first shopping guide and I’m really glad to hear that you guys have been enjoying these posts! I saved the funnest one for last– shopping for the boyfriend! I always get carried away with shopping for the bf, only because mine is a little on the picky side and I like a good challenge.

wishlis_bf

one. Bazinga! Hoodie – Think Geek – $40
For all those Big Bang Theory fans out there, this one’s for you! Personally, I love the show. Boyfriend? Not so much. This would definitely be a bit more on the joke side of gift giving, seeing as how he would not want to be caught dead wearing such a thing. At the same time, I wouldn’t mind stealing this from his closet every now and then. I guess this is kinda like an indirect gift to myself… oops!

two. Moccasin slippers – Target – $12 (on sale right now from $20!)
I love moccasins like I love sliced bread (and that’s a lot)! These slippers are particular cute because of their somewhat boat shoe design. Bf would particularly love these because he really likes his outdoor boat shoes!

three. Canvas messenger laptop bag – Ben Sherman (via Bluefly) – $72
A lot of women don’t like to carry backpacks when they’re no longer in school. Same goes for men, I think! A nice alternative would be this laptop messenger bag. Something casual but still gives a hint of sophisticated without being too over-the-top. The handles for carrying it like a briefcase are also a nice bonus.

four. Convertible fingerless gloves/mittens – Thinsulate (via Amazon) – $13
Fun fact: bf and I are in a long distance relationship! This means we text each other a ton to and from work all the time. Nothing like a little something to let him know that I don’t want his hands to freeze while he’s texting my from the bus stop.

five. Silkscreened t-shirts (various designs) – MisNopalesArt (via Etsy) – 2 for $30
I couldn’t help but sneak a little something handmade into this gift guide. I’ve actually gifted him a shirt from this shop already but there are always new prints being added and I love them all. I love the sugar skull take on many of iconic characters printed on the shirts. Not only are these great for significant others, but they’re also fun for male friends! I gifted the stormtroopers and Star Wars couple shirts last year and they were really popular!

I hope you guys enjoyed this year’s gift guides! I can’t wait to do it all again next year. :)

I’m off to hit the malls one last time to wrap up my Christmas shopping. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the lineups aren’t too crazy! (I’m a bit of a procrastinator when it comes to the holidays…)

Holiday Shopping Guide: Handmade Edition!

by thedemuremuse on December 11, 2011

The lovely Bradee has been such a sweet twitter friend over the past couple of months and suggested this week’s theme. We’re going with gifts for a teenage girl with a twist! I wanted to make a “handmade shopping guide” for the longest time and figured why not combine the two?

All the items in this gift guide were found on Etsy! I have been a huge fan of buying handmade for the holidays for the past few years now and Etsy makes it so easy to shop in the comforts of my PJs on a Sunday morning. ;)

wishlist_handmade1

one. Thickie Crochet Hat with brim – the darling bud – $26
Everyone needs a cute, cozy hat for the winters, yes? Yes! I love the side brim and crocheted flower with the button center. Super cute and warm and functional!

two. Hot Pink Geo earrings - a merry mishap – $13.99
I cannot get enough of these hot pink earrings! Nothing is more fun that a pop of colour accessories that are usually understated. The size of these earrings are perfect for everyday wear and the colour is sure to bring a pop of fun to any outfit!

three. Natural Treasures long necklace – Peeko Apparel – $38
On the same thought as the earrings, this necklace is absolutely GORGEOUS! Just look at the shade of green on the sliced agate stone! This necklace features such a beautiful mix of colours and textures of both new and vintage.

wishlist_handmade2

four. Antique lace blouse (low scoop back) – Minxshop – $90
Are you surprised that an item from Minkie made it into the handmade guide? She recently released a handful of new styles that I am in love with and would make great gifts for any lady. This low scoop back lace top is no exception.

five. Trimmed peacock feather earrings – Tavia Sanza – $11
Oh, the colour of these earrings are SO PRETTY!! The perfect stocking stuffer for any little lady this holiday season. I can’t say I’ve been a huge fan of the regular peacock feather earrings with the natural, wispy ends (They always look like they would tickle me!!) but these ones are perfect!

six. Cat origami pin – Hug a Porcupine – $24
First off, can I just say how cute the shop name is? I WOULD LOVE TO HUG A PORCUPINE!! Secondly, how cute is this pin? There are actually a bunch of cute animal pins (Including a Fox, rabbit, and squirrel) and other beautifully coloured geometric-shaped necklaces.

seven. – Bear rug coasters (set of 3) – DANDYRIONS – $37
Last but not least, a cute set of coasters to put a smile on a special little lady’s face every morning. You can’t go wrong with a cute bear staring back at you while you eat breakfast, can you?

Is anyone else supporting handmade this holiday season?

Holiday Shopping Guide: Leopard print lover

by thedemuremuse on November 26, 2011

I hope you guys are all enjoying your turkey-filled weekends! Today’s shopping guide was suggested by Erica of Sweets and Hearts. She was stumped for ideas for a coworker with a love of leopard print. Here’s my round-up of a few things I think would be perfect for a) leopard print lovers and b) coworker appropriate!

wishlist_leopard

one. Wool hat with leopard trim accent – Target – $17
This is the one item in the list that doesn’t scream omgiloveleopardeverything. I love how the leopard trim really adds so much character to the hat. Who knew something so simple could make such a big impact?

two. Leopard print Macbook vinyl decal – BengalWorks via Etsy – $10
As someone who has their netbook decked out in vinyl decals, I couldn’t help but see if a leopard print decal existed. Etsy seems to have the bases covered for all your vinyl decal needs! There are so many colors available, but I went with showcases this hot pink one (hehe, it’s so girly)!

three. Coin purse – Forever 21 – $5
Coin purses with the twist clasp are my favs. This one is (surprise, surprise!) leopard print and perfect to be used as a holder for other gifts (*cough* see the next item *cough*).

four. Metallic Leopard Heart Drop Earrings – Betsey Johnson – $30
I knew I could count on my girl Betsey for some cute leopard print accessories! BJ makes the sweetest jewelry and these earrings are no exception. The perfect amount of girly, glitzy, and leopard without being too over the top and in your face.

five. Paws and Affect Shoe – Mod Cloth – $38
These booties are too cute and super fun! Definitely a fun piece to be strutting around in during the California winter, don’t you think?

six. Leopard Crew Socks – Betsey Johnson – $12
Last but not least, a pair of pink leopard print socks! Fun printed socks are actually my favourite stocking stuffers (to give and receive). They’re also one of my favourite accessories. No one will notice if you hide them under your pants with closed-toed shoes, or you can wear them over leggings to give that extra oomph to your outfit!

YAY! Thanks for this suggestion, Erica! It was really neat thumbing through all the different leopard print clothes, shoes, and accessories being offered this season. I hope you were able to find something fun for your coworker from this list. :)

I hope you all enjoy what’s left of your weekend! I know I am a little sad for this four-day-weekend to come to an end.

Holiday Shopping Guide: Sister’s Boyfriend

by thedemuremuse on November 19, 2011

This Holiday Shopping Guide took a lot more thinking and digging. I’m hoping to help Liz of Lizzypunch find a gift for her sister’s boyfriend who she describes as someone that “has impeccable taste and already has everything he needs!”

Girl, I hear you!! I go through this dilemma with almost every birthday and Christmas with my sister’s boyfriend! For someone you described like your sister’s boyfriend, I like to go with the unique/quirky, but memorable, gift route. Here are some things I think would be fun to gift:

wishlis_sistersbf

one. Recycled Beer Bottle Glass – YAVAglass via Etsy – $8
I’ve been eyeing these on Etsy for the last 2 winters and haven’t found a reason to buy one yet. I think this would make such a cool conversation piece. To gift it, I would fill the glass up with your sister’s bf’s favourite chocolates or candies. Who doesn’t like candy and a functional piece of art?

two. 35mm Juice Box Camera (film included!) – Photojojo – $25
A camera disguised as a juice box? Too cute! This would be a fun gift for anyone, really. There’s nothing like getting a fun gift to help you capture memories in the new year!

three. Custom birch wood and cable wire keychain – naneHandmade via Etsy – $18
An impeccably unique keychain for a guy with impeccable taste. The initial can be customized and since each piece is handmade, every keychain is one of a kind! There are also a bunch of other cool designs available in naneHandmade’s Etsy shop.

four. Magnetic Polaroid Frames (set of 6) – Photojojo – $15
Last but not least, these frames are my fav! The set comes with a dry-erase marker to write cute little captions along the bottoms of the framed photos. Definitely a great gift choice for a sister’s bf to frame all his holiday memories in!

Since the economy is not that great this year, I’m going to continue to try to make my gift guides wallet friendly. Let me know if you have any other suggestions for holiday gift guide themes! I’d be more than happy to do some (browser) shopping for you! ;)

Holiday Shopping Guide >> 15 year old sister

by thedemuremuse on November 12, 2011

This week starts the first segment of Holiday Shopping Guides! I’ve been asking fans on my facebook page for suggestions for that particular someone who they’re having trouble shopping for. Brandy of Miss Lyon asked for gift suggestions for her 15 year old sister. I thought a lot about what 15 year olds are into these days (gosh, how the times have changed since I was 15!) and came up with this list of little gadgets and accessories that I think would be awesome for gift giving.

wishlist_15

one. Fair Isle Slippers – H&M – $18
One print I just can’t get enough of these days is fair isle. It’s so wintery and makes me feel cozy just looking at it. These would be perfect for snuggling up by the fireplace and doing some holiday break reading, don’t you think?

two. Splitterbot Headphones Sharing Robot Keyhain – ThinkGeek – $6 (on sale!!)
You know when you find the best song during your lunch period and want to be able to share it with a friend but you only have a jack for one pair of headphones? This little robot keychain solves that problem! He allows you to share music with your BFF. Cute and functional! Can’t complain! :)

three. Gadget Case – craftingwithlove via Etsy – $23
Let’s be honest: I never had a cell phone when I was back in high school, but it seems like every teenager these days has one! I’m a huge worrier when it comes to protecting my phone from getting scratched while in my purse, so why not add a cute protector to the list? I really like the flowers and lace on this one.

four. Boogie Board Paperless LCD Writing Tablet – Best Buy – $40
This is too cute! It’s like a modern day chalk board, but better! This would be the perfect gift for someone to decorate their room with, or use as a to-do list tracker. Students can lead busy lives and this is a fun way to keep track of all the stuff going on in anyone’s life.

five. SMASH Journal – K & Company via Amazon – $13
“live it up, glue it down, and smash it in!” There’s no better time to start journaling than the holidays! I’ve read so many great reviews about SMASH journals for their fun page prints and innovative journal kits. I’m considering starting my own, but for now, I think this would be a great gift for anyone!

I hope this guide was useful for everyone! If you’d like me to put together a gift guide for someone you’re having trouble coming up with gift ideas for, feel free to let me know!! I love shopping for others and had a blast working on this one! :D
