Hello gorgeous

Graphic tees have slowly been inching their way back into regular rotation this season. I found this tee while in the midst of placing an order on Old Navy’s site and poking around the clearance section for one more item to qualify for free shipping. This tee is supposed to be oversized as is, but considering that my size was already sold out and I sized up again, I was pleasantly surprised by the fit! It’s the perfect shirt for dressing down, lounging, or sleeping in… No complaints for a multi-purpose tee!

A few weeks ago, I finally cleaned my shoe collection and purged around 15 pairs. Every time I attempted to purge shoes in the past, I would stop myself and say, “I’m of course going to wear this in the next season” and place it back in the closet. Reality check: I never wore them after putting them back in the closet. Some pairs were even damaged beyond repair, yet I still kept them in the closet. Feels good to finally say I’m down to a handful of pairs that I wear often and will continue to wear in the future. This pair of Clarks is the newest addition since the purge. My goal is to purchase high quality, well made shoes that will last more than one season instead of giving into fast fashion in the footwear department. Shoes are a bit of a weakness for me, so I’m hoping I can stick to my guns on this promise and not have an overflowing closet of shoes again.

Speaking of purges, I am looooooong overdue for a closet purge. Have any of you already done this? Any tips to share on how to decide what to keep/donate/sell when your clothes are seasonal?

Missing essentials

Truth be told, my apartment is still missing a lot of essentials despite the fact that I’ve been in Seattle for over two years now. I’ve managed to go this long without a TV (apparently this comes as a huge shock to most people??), no dresser (everything is hung up neatly in a bigger-than-required closet), or a full-length mirror. Most days I don’t feel like the lack of a full-length mirror is a bad thing, but occasionally something like the following outfit will happen and I can’t kick myself harder for not paying attention to the bottom half of an outfit more.

blazer: Forever 21 (similar)
sleeveless blouse: H&M
skirt & purse: 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target
necklace: c/o Tryst Jewellery (exact)
houndstooth tights: American Eagle
booties: Target (similar)
cateye glasses: c/o Rivet & Sway (exact)

This outfit is actually almost over a month old and I never posted it because I could not get on board with the tights and booties combo. I feel like this outfit would’ve been 1000x better if I had gone bare-legged instead of slapping the tights on in a last-minute decision. Welp, I guess you can’t win ’em all!

Lesson learned: the next trip to Ikea is going to include bringing home a full-length mirror so such tragedies won’t be repeated.

Sanctuary between the bookshelves

I can’t believe the weekend is already over!! Monday always comes too soon. With the chillier weather these days, my inner “homebody” is slowly creeping out. My typical routine is to catch up on chores on Saturdays (wild, I know!) and then spend a bit of time at a coffee shop (if it’s not raining out) to catch up on missed emails/work. Sundays are my favourite because I’ll go for a run in the morning (being awake by 6:30am is a bit of a blessing and a curse, but more so a blessing since there’s usually no one outside to witness my poor running form) and then do something low key with friends before retreating back home to make dinner and Skype with my family.

A friend and I were planning to grab a quick coffee (tea for me!) and do our grocery shopping for the week but ended up stopping at our favourite bookstore beforehand.

My attention was completely sucked into this book, Designlicious: Gastronomy by Design. If there are two things in this world that I’m passionate about, it would be food and design. Putting the concepts together (design of food packaging, restaurant branding, etc) is quite the lethal combination for killing time!

Two hours of wandering around and thumbing through books that have been on our “to read” lists later, we finally left to start grocery shopping. Weekends need to be longer… or I need to stop getting sidetracked so easily. haha

Nothing I’ve ever done right happened on the safe side

Oh, November. Between getting sick on Halloween, sleeping for 15 hours straight (I guess this makes up for all the insomnia?), and wanting nothing more than for Starbucks to start serving their signature peppermint hot chocolate drinks, this month has been off to a great start! (sarcasm)

outfit details:
jacket and toque: H&M
draped sweater: Urban Behaviour
jeans: 7 for all Mankind
sneakers: Upper Echelon Shoes
stacking rings: c/o Uncommon Goods (exact)
Face a Face Kazan glasses: c/o Vizio Optic (similar)

I wish I had more to say today. The lack of energy and constant fatigue is really draining. Thank goodness for good books to thumb through (I recently ordered Humans of New York) and great music (Metric’s Synthetica album is on repeat right now, hence this title. I just can’t get enough of the track “Clone”) to keep my mind occupied between sleeps. It’s such a weird feeling to be so out of touch with reality when you’re bedridden!

Hope your week is off to a better start than mine!

Riot rhythm

Last weekend, Sleigh Bells came to town to tour after releasing their third album. It’s been just over a year since I last saw them play in Seattle and their shows are always such a treat! I usually don’t go to concerts in a blazer, but it was too chilly to go in only a tank top over these “liquid” leggings.

outfit details:
tank top & skull purse: H&M
blazer: Forever 21 (similar)
faux leather leggings: c/o LeggingsQueen (exact)
studded t-strap pumps: Charlotte Russe
name necklace: c/o oNecklace (exact)

I wasn’t feeling particularly adventurous with my colour palette on this day, so I stuck with my trusty ‘ol monochrome black and white basics. I had planned to go with a bit of a spunkier look with these studded pumps and paired my name necklace to go along with the silver studs. Something about the dainty lettering paired with the tougher studs on the shoes and the skulls on my purse made me feel a little… fancy?

I have actually been looking for customized name necklaces for a couple years now and when oNecklace reached out, I jumped at the chance to get one. I picked a sterling silver piece with a box chain that came with simple lettering. The quality of the necklace itself is beautiful, which I can honestly say I was pleasantly surprised by considering the price of this custom piece and the turnaround time to receive the necklace (only a couple weeks) compared to other options that I had originally bookmarked when I first started looking into these necklaces.

As the evening crept up, the temperature fell way too low for these open-toed pumps to be practical. I ended up changing into my trusty combat boots which have brass accents and swapped my necklace for the double layered gold one that I usually wear. Considering that we ended up dancing awkwardly like dorks during the show, the change of shoes was a good call. (Random fact: I now have 3 pairs of shoes in this style. I styled a nude pair over the summer, and also have a pair of black velvet ones which I got from a swap with Ashley. Is there such a thing as too many studs?)

Best part of the night? Meeting Alexis! When I went to see Sleigh Bells last year, my friends and I stuck it out for a while after the show hoping to meet her. As it turns out, she always comes out at the end of shows to sign merch and hang out with the crowd for a bit. It was pretty awesome to see that, even after growing a bigger following over the years and releasing a third album, she genuinely cares about her fans a lot!
